After spending my early life in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I decided to leave the land of Carnaval, bootylicious backsides, and Samba dancing, and move to Miami, Florida where I was branded an American Citizen. It took me a whole eleven years to realize that I was one of only a few people living in Florida under the age of 65, (I had always assumed that fragrant drawer liners and potpourri were just the fad in the United States), so I packed my bags for a faster life, in California.
I exhibited classic signs of being a design geek from an early age – I destroyed my mothers Vogue magazines to create my own logos, took pleasure in painting my grandmothers’ face with random geometric shapes, and sported a number of asymmetrical angular hair cuts - even when they weren’t in fashion. It really was no surprise to my parents when I took on a degree in 3D animation.
My first stint as a graduate was working for a TV station called “The Box Music Network”, making the pretty graphics that remind you what station you are tuned into before and after the show (you know, just incase your peripheral vision failed to see the watermark in the corner of the screen for the last half hour!). After I earned my stripes, they then let me play with video editing and a few other tasks where my animation skills got a decent workout. I don’t mean to blow my own horn, but I got pretty pro using “Flint” and “Softimage”. Sadly, I often forgot to go home at the end of my shift, staying on in the hypnotic, splendorific bliss of being surrounded by all the nerdy toys to play with.
As a natural progression, I developed an interest in the web, and in particular, flash animation. I pimped my skills out to a creative agency, working as a designer and project manager, creating websites, logo designs, presentations and an assortment of other products, before establishing my own company.
When 2004 arrived, so did an offer for my dream job with Macromedia as a “Quality Assurance Engineer” on the Flash Authoring team. To be paid to play with my favourite software, amongst a team of awesome people was like paying a monkey to visit a banana farm! My geek neurons fired fireworks of delight!
In 2006, I followed my personal life and found myself in Australia, the place I now call “home”. Mostly because it’s convenient to ride my pet kangaroo around from A to B. I am still working for Adobe (previously known as Macromedia), as a Quality Assurance Engineer, but now on Photoshop.com.
Now you have experienced a brief biographical tour of my life, enjoy roaming around the visual history of my career. I use the term “portfolio” loosely in this website. It’s more a storage hub for the old stuff I’ve accumulated over the years... Much like Florida is for the rest of the USA.
Keep checking back to see the other things I’ve been tinkering around with, like my blog on random geeky things, some Twitter action and flickr snaps!
Tchau!
